Hate to state that title in racial terms but it is the truth. This form, Jazz was the marrying of African Rhythms to European diatonic scales, classical counterpoint, the pressing of harmonic structure to the dissonant limits with subtle voicing. It came out of Ragtime - Fats Waller, to Art Tatum, to Oscar Peterson, and at the same time to Thelonious Monk and others, Bill Evans, was the first white Jazz Pianist in the same ball park as Oscar and gang. Still, Bill Evan is the most creative of the white jazz pianists so far.
